Actor Denies Anti-Vax Stance After Narrating Disputed Covid Feature
The "Taken" star has given his voice to a feature-length documentary that questions the safety of vaccines and praises one-time government figure RFK Jr.
The Documentary's Provocative Basis
Named "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is inspired by a popular book written by a controversial scientist, who became famous during the pandemic for assertions that the virus was linked to a faulty batch of the flu vaccine.
The book's collaborator, Kent Heckenlively, has penned books with conspiracy-prone radio host a known commentator. The producer took to social media celebrating Neeson's role in the documentary.
A Strong Statement
A spokesperson for Liam Neeson have issued a comment firmly refuting implications that he subscribes to anti-vaccine beliefs.
"Everyone can recognize that unethical practices might be present within the pharmaceutical industry, but that cannot be conflated with being against vaccines," the statement reads. "Neeson never has been, and remains not, anti-vax. His considerable work with Unicef highlights his enduring support for public-health initiatives."
It added that the star was not involved in crafting the project's narrative and that inquiries about its assertions are best addressed to the filmmakers.
Major Assertions Within the Documentary
In the film, the voiceover read by Neeson makes several strong statements:
- It states that pro-immunization voices have called for "blind obedience" to public institutions.
- It declares that "research has become dangerously politicized."
- Kennedy is featured saying, "The major issue with vaccines is that they are not safely tested."
- The film further attacks Covid lockdowns, arguing they caused severe distress that cost thousands of lives.
- On the topic of the immunizations, it mentions a view that they were "developed too quickly" and seen as "risky trials."
Past Context and Current Disputes
The documentary further cites a historical film about clinical trials on children, which was later the topic of a correction by the corporation for violations of guidelines.
Last month, RFK Jr directed the CDC to alter its long-held position that there is no causal relationship between vaccines and autism spectrum disorder. This supposed link is repeated in the film, even with a fresh analysis from the global health body stating no such link has been found.
A Previous Statement of Advocacy
Contrasting the documentary's narrative, Neeson has previously voiced clear advocacy for vaccines in his position as a Unicef global ambassador.
Two years ago, he described vaccines as "a remarkable human success story," adding that "The debate about vaccines in recent years has lost sight of how much good they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest shared accomplishments in history."
The documentary ends with Neeson's voice saying, "This is not the finish of our story. This is the dawn of a different phase."
