Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series after the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now hit 23 total playoff homers, placing him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person anywhere that I want up in that moment other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.

Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the losing end of this one," he remarked.

Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
