Six Arrested Following €12 Million Heist on Gold Processing Laboratory in the French Republic

A team of six suspects using military-grade weapons detonated charges to break into a gold treatment facility located in Lyon, France, resulting in minor injuries to five staff members during what appears to be the latest high-profile daytime heist to affect the country.

The bold operation took place on Thursday afternoon, with law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehending the alleged criminals and recovering the stolen goods valued at approximately 12 million euros (£10.5 million), according to officials.

Five employees of the precious metals facility were slightly hurt due to the explosion, and three of them were taken to a medical facility for evaluation, the regional prefecture announced. Twenty-eight employees were present on-site when the thieves struck.

Those arrested, believed to be career criminals, were taken into custody soon afterwards in the neighboring community of Vénissieux, France, according to investigative sources.

A female accomplice who took part in the raid was also apprehended, officers confirmed.

“Six people who utilized explosives in an assault targeting a gold refining facility in Lyon, France were caught in the act,” the French interior minister declared on social media, commending law enforcement for their “quick action, authority and management”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were likewise seized.

The raid happened as French police on that Thursday apprehended five additional individuals, among them a key figure, in connection with the recent audacious raid on the Louvre museum.

Many investigative personnel have been hunting four thieves who employed a truck equipped with a moving lift and cutting gear to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the renowned museum on October 19th, making off with jewelry valued at approximately €88 million.

In a separate high-profile case, thieves last month forced their way into the French capital's Natural History Museum, making off with gold samples worth over $1 million. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was arrested earlier this month in Barcelona in connection with the break-in, according to legal authorities.

The sequence of heists has raised concerns in the nation regarding inadequate security measures at cultural venues and other facilities housing valuable items.
