The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
