Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing the match official to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves Thomas Frank's side into third place in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the face of goal for an free the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and the other striker - the Toffees' two established strikers - had scored just a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, even with having room and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly delivered dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.

Everton: The team travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their next round League Cup tie against the Magpies.
