The Manager's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were relegated back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had such discussions," the London-born ex- Irish youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a unique position here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important stage of the season. Anything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Contractual Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and declare what they were, but naturally it's a really big football club."

The coach agreed to a fresh four-year contract in last year and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales forward is inclined to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

Wales are presently third in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but guaranteed of reaching that stage, due to a productive Nations League campaign, even if they not finish as Group J second place.

Considering his current stance, Bellamy, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would not be available until after the qualifying matches at the earliest.
